BEAR began life through a series of incidents that occurred through a bear costume first created by a much loved friend, to wear himself for a New Years Eve party. Somehow this costume seemed to collude with the love affair and the universe in a strange and transformative way. Dancing, and living through this costume evokes a world that opens between memories and premonitions, the question of animal and the mysteries of love.
There was a love affair and there was the Bear.
The Bear was a he or at least was the skin for a he
After he left, that skin was all she had left
She wore it sometimes
So the bear became a she.
Bear also has a life outside the stage as a pilgrimage to Peru to visit the grandfather of Anushiye’s friend, a Curandero who lives in the mountains. This is recorded in the documentary film ‘ Bear- The Wanderer.’
